This Is Not a Government Office or Records Custodian. McNair Residents Directory is a private reference site. We cannot retrieve records, certify copies, establish current residence, or alter a public roll. Direct those matters to the office that maintains the record. For an emergency, call 911. Anyone facing stalking or harassment should contact local law enforcement.

Reach the Right Records Custodian

McNair is a Fairfax County CDP, so a county or Virginia custodian usually holds the record. For a county public-record request, start with the Fairfax County FOIA Office. A written request should identify the agency, the record type, the relevant date range, and any address, parcel, or case number. Virginia Code ยง 2.2-3704 supplies the public-record response framework, but the county office cannot obtain records controlled by an independent custodian.

For records handled outside county FOIA, use the office that owns the record. The Fairfax County Office of Vital Records handles eligible local certified-copy requests; the Virginia Department of Health provides the state vital-record forms, including the Office of Vital Records mailing address at PO Box 1000, Richmond, VA 23218-1000, and 804-662-6200. Court records belong with the clerk, school records with FCPS, sheriff records with the sheriff, and state-held records with their state custodian.

The records routes most often needed for McNair are:

  • Address and parcel records: use the McNair street directory and the Department of Tax Administration or Circuit Court route it identifies.
  • Historic volumes and earlier households: use the McNair city directories and the Virginia Room collection links.
  • One named person: use the McNair resident lookup workflow, then seek confirmation from the actual custodian.
  • County offices behind the records: see the McNair records offices reference.
  • Material absent from a public portal: submit a focused Virginia FOIA request to the named county custodian when that route applies.
